The Definition
A 3-side seal pouch is a flat packaging bag made from two pieces of film (or one piece folded) that are heat-sealed on three sides, leaving one side open for the customer to fill their product. Once filled, the fourth side is heat-sealed to create a completely airtight, flat package.
Unlike the Stand-Up Pouch or the Flat Bottom Pouch, this format does not have a gusset, meaning it cannot stand up on its own.
Key Technical Characteristics
Uniform Internal Volume: Because it’s flat, the pressure is distributed evenly. It’s the most reliable choice for vacuum packaging.
Hang Hole Integration: Since these bags don’t stand up, they are almost always designed with a Euro-hole or Round-hole punch at the top so they can be hung on retail display hooks.
Tear Notches: Usually included just above the seal line to allow the consumer to open the “permanent” heat seal easily without scissors.
Material Versatility: You can offer these in everything from simple PE/PET to high-barrier Foil (AL) or even Kraft Paper laminates.
