A flat bottom pouch is a premium flexible packaging format that combines the best features of a traditional side-gusseted bag and a stand-up pouch. It features a completely flat, rectangular base and four vertical gussets (two on the sides, and a folded bottom), allowing it to stand perfectly upright like a box, even before it is filled.

Key Structural Differences

Unlike a standard Doypack (which has a rounded bottom), the flat bottom pouch is engineered for maximum stability and branding:

  • Five Panels of Branding: You have the front, back, bottom, and two side gussets. This is a huge selling point for your clients because it offers five surfaces for high-quality printing.

  • The “Box” Effect: Because the bottom is flat and rectangular, it doesn’t “roll” or tilt on the shelf. It mimics the shape of a rigid cardboard box but with the benefits of flexible film.

  • Material Efficiency: Even though it looks larger, it often uses less film than a standard SUP of the same volume because of its depth (gussets).
